BOARD OF DIRECTORS
LEMONT E. JOYNER, M.S.P.H.
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, AFYA, INC.
Mr. Joyner founded AFYA in 1991 to address and eliminate disparities in social and health conditions among underserved populations. He has pursued that mission with passion, guiding AFYA in the development of a client base that includes numerous Federal Government agencies, universities, private research organizations, and other consulting firms. As a research scientist, Mr. Joyner has directed studies for the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Office of Minority Health, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, all within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He founded The AFYA Foundation for Children in 2010 to focus his vision for AFYA on a population near-and-dear to his heart—children. Mr. Joyner received his M.S. degree in public health from the Howard University College of Medicine. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of The National Center for Minority Health.
KAREN FEGGANS-JAMES, M.S.W.
VICE PRESIDENT & CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, AFYA, INC.
Ms. Feggans-James is responsible for overseeing all of AFYA’s contract operations, as well as human resources and information technology services. She draws on her more than 30 years of professional experience to ensure that AFYA exemplifies the company’s tag line — “Achieving Excellence Through Service.” Ms. Feggans-James has served as Corporate Monitor on AFYA projects with several operating divisions within HHS, the U.S. Department of Education, and the firm’s long-standing cooperative agreement with the Corporation for National and Community Service. She ensures compliance with all contract specifications and conducts quality control reviews of final deliverables. Ms. Feggans-James holds a master’s degree in social work from Howard University.
SUZAN M. LUMPKIN, M.P.H.
VICE PRESIDENT, SURVEYS AND EVALUATION, MAGELLAN HEALTH
Ms. Lumpkin has 24 years of experience in survey research. Her forte is evaluation and outcome studies and other areas of quantitative and qualitative research and analysis. She has expertise in protocol development, study coordination and implementation, quality evaluation and improvement, and analysis and consultation for assessment activities. Ms. Lumpkin has an M.P.H. degree from the University of Michigan.
CHARMAINE MORGAN, M.S.A.
CONTROLLER, AFYA, INC.
Ms. Morgan is responsible for overseeing all of AFYA’s finance and accounting functions. She monitors corporate accounts, reviews financial statements, and designs and implements internal policies and procedures to ensure solvency and efficiency. Ms. Morgan has more than 25 years of professional experience. She holds a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Maryland University College.
